Mark Vahrmeyer

I am an experienced integrative psychotherapist, offering psychotherapy sessions to both couples and individuals in Brighton through Living at Choice and in my practice in London.

I have a background of 14 years experience in the fields of personal growth, therapy and applied psychology and have worked in a clinical capacity as both a counsellor and psychotherapist across a range of public and private settings including the NHS.

My experience of working with clients affected by many different issues, some of which have been very personal and particular to that individual and others which are common to many of us at some point in our lives such as bereavement, relationship issues, depression, anxiety and anger management.  As a clinical psychotherapist I am trained to work with clients with short-term issues through to long-term complex work dealing with psychopathology.

I have both trained and worked as a psychotherapist in Australia and the UK and since 2008 have run a clinical practice in Brighton located in a quiet residential area close to Seven Dials where is see individuals and couples on specific week-days/evenings and on Saturdays.

My approach is based on working relationally meaning I focus on establinshing a safe a supportive alliance with my clients, before exploring how past and present patterns are influencing their choices, values, beliefs and relationships with others.

I am qualified by both BACP and UKCP standards to refer to myself as a counsellor and psychotherapist and I practice drawing primarily on psychoanalytic, systemic and phenomenological models of psychotherapy.  In lay terms this means I focus on building a picture of a client's early life and childhood and in understanding how this may be influencing their current relationship patterns; I consider how current relationships with others influence and impact of the client's thoughts, feelings and behaviour; lastly, I am profoundly interested in understanding the client's subjective experience of living their life and in discovering what it means for them to live a meaningful existence.

My training includes both academic and professional training in the fields of couple counselling and clincial psychotherapy obtained in Australia and the UK.
