markMy approach to both counselling and psychotherapy is in creating a safe and supportive relationship with you, the client, before exploring how your choices, values, beliefs and your past experiences may be influencing you life. I have a background of 12 years experience in the field of personal growth, therapy and applied psychology and have been formally trained in both psychodynamic and existential therapy. I am experienced in working with a wide range of clients dealing with short-term challenges through to deep-rooted issues requiring longer term therapy. My academic training includes a post-graduate diploma from The Australian College of Applied Psychology in Brisbane, Australia, and more recently a Masters in Counselling and Psychotherapy from The University of London. As well as my academic background, I have been specifically trained in the field of human relationships and sexuality and have experience of working with both couples and individuals in sensitively exploring difficult issues in these areas. In addition to working with sexuality and relationships, I have experience of working with clients affected by depression, anxiety, abuse, self esteem, bereavement, anger management and cultural issues, to name a few. Whilst living in Australia I worked as a systemic relationship counsellor with Relationships Australia, the largest family and relationship counselling provider in the country. In the UK I have worked as a counsellor and psychotherapist for the NHS, as well as for Anxiety UK. I am currently running a private practice in Brighton, as well as working for The Rock Clinic. I am fortunate enough to have an international background having been raised in England, The Netherlands, France, Portugal and Canada and am fluent in English, Dutch and Portuguese. I believe this ‘world view’ experience contributes to my ability to work with clients from any cultural background and enables me to have an understanding of the challenges a lack of belonging and feelings of being uprooted can bring. I am a full member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and abide by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice as well as subscribing to the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) Code of Ethics. |
